Proctor/Marker and Study Centre Information

SEPTEMBER 20, 2011-- WE CURRENTLY HAVE ENOUGH PROCTORS AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING ANY MORE PROCTOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE FALL TERM.

Thanks.

Hi everyone and welcome to the new website! Hopefully it’s as useful to you as the last one was. I’m hoping that I can pick up where Josh and Dennise left off and use the system they had in place.
It’s bound to be a little rough at first so please do not be afraid to let me know if there are any problems.

Thank you and I’m sure to see quite a few of you around!
The office is still P4264, the door will be open if I’m in!

PPOOL--Psychology Pool of Undergraduate Proctors, Markers, and Study Centre Attendants

Who organizes the ppool?

Every year someone different is in charge of organizing the ppool. Currently Patti Devlin is coordinating these responsibilities.  Patti can be reached at 494-6551 or 494-6539 (office phone) or by email (ppool@dal.ca). Applications are also available outside the door (Room 4264 in the psychology department, Dalhousie University).

What is the Study Centre & Carrel Area?

The Carrel Area is a quiet study area available to any 2nd year or higher psychology undergraduate students (located on the 4th floor of the psychology department). Students can be assigned a "Carrel" which is essentially their own desk-space and given keys to lock their stuff (for added security), the main doors to the Carrel Area also stay locked 24/7, so a lot of students use the space to store their textbooks and other school-related supplies. The only other requirement for getting a Study Carrel in the Carrel Area is to volunteer 1 hour per week of your time as a Study Centre Attendant. Fortunately, the Study Centre is right next to the Carrel Area, the Study Centre is not very busy (so you can bring your own work to study while you're 'on duty') and you can work the same hour every week (so we can try to find a time that fits ideally into your schedule).

What about proctoring or marking?

Proctors are recruited by professors to help administer midterms and exams. Your duty will be to show up at a time (assigned by Patti) to help hand out and collect exams (and any other requirements of the professor). Care will always been taken to assign schedules well in advance, so there shouldn't be surprises, and if you can't make an assigned mid-term or exam, let us know ASAP so someone can fill that spot.

Markers are assigned (as needed/requested) from faculty members. Any undergraduate (casual) marker is only allowed to fill a maximum of 20 hours marking per term (union regulations).

Both Proctors/Markers will received $11.00/hour for hours worked on a bi-weekly schedule.
